Lowly Argentinos Juniors gave themselves a welcome confidence booster with a 3-1 win over Velez Sarsfield on Saturday.

Santiago Salcedo opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time and an own goal from Sebastian Dominquez then put the home side in total command.

Guillermo Franco gave Sarsfield hope but, Marcelo Barovero was sent off and Salcedo added a penalty to douse their enthusiasm.

Fernando Tobio was then sent off in the last minute, ensuring Velez ended with nine men.

Elsewhere, Newell's Old Boys drew 2-2 with Olimpo.

Santiago Vergini's penalty put Old Boys ahead and Maximiliano Urruti made it two, only for Martin Rolle and Adrian Lucero to pull Olimpo level.

Independiente's game with Arsenal Sarandi ended goalless.
