Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano suffered an ankle injury on Sunday that is likely to sideline him for the remainder of the Spanish league season.

Fabiano sprained his left ankle during a 38th-minute scramble in the 3-1 win over Atletico Madrid.

Sevilla says Fabiano will undergo scans on Monday to confirm the severity of the sprain. The Brazil striker, who has 14 league goals, is likely to miss the last three games but make the Copa del Rey final against Atletico on May 19.

Fabiano is Brazil's starting striker going into the World Cup after being part of his country's Copa America and Confederations Cup triumphs.

Sevilla says striker Lautaro Acosta will only return next season after suffering a leg injury.
