Sevilla will be without midfielder Tiberio Guarente for six months due to a knee injury the Spanish club was ready to risk when it signed the Italian midfielder in the summer.
Club doctor Juan Ribas says Guarente will undergo surgery on his right ankle next week.
Ribas says the club detected ''problems with his knee, that it was a high-risk knee'' when Guarente underwent a medical before signing from Atalante in the summer. But Sevilla deemed the risk acceptable since ''the player was playing during this time.''
Sevilla is already without Spain winger Jesus Navas, who underwent ankle surgery this week, and defenders Federico Fazio and Ivica Dragutinovic.
