Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido is still hoping to keep hold of star striker Alvaro Negredo and has told any interested parties they will only get the Spain international if they meet his asking price.

Negredo, who scored 25 La Liga goals last season, has indicated he would like to leave Sevilla this summer and Manchester City are reportedly among those clubs looking to pry the 27-year-old away from the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Del Nido said there has been some progress on talks but has dismissed speculation that City, who last month signed Spain winger Jesus Navas from the Andalusian club, are closing in a deal for the prolific forward.

According to reports in Spain this weekend, City were preparing a 23million euros offer for Negredo.

He said: "With Negredo there has been progress but we are far from reaching an agreement. Right now it's further away than it was at the time with Atletico Madrid. Sevilla have put an evaluation on Negredo and either Sevilla are paid what they're asking for or he stays for another three years. I'm not saying the price that's been put on him. The ideal thing would be that he remains in Sevilla and renews for another two years."

Del Nido added: "We are in no hurry. We are in a better situation than a month ago and we've shown that with the signings that we've made."

Sevilla are traveling to South America for a pre-season tour later this week and as things stand Del Nido expects Negredo to be part of the traveling party.

"There's no possibility that he won't get on the plane for the tour, save for things being close (on a transfer) and that's not the case," he said. "Right now Negredo has the same has the same chance as (coach Unai) Emery and (goalkeeper) Beto and of traveling to South America."
