Serie A sells domestic TV rights for $3.34 billion

Italy's Serie A has sold its domestic TV rights for the three-season period spanning 2013 to 2015 for nearly 2.5 billion euros ($3.34 billion).

The satellite rights will stay with Sky Italia of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., while RTI (Reti Televisive Italiane) of Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi's Mediaset group will retain digital rights for 12 of the 20 clubs.

Sky will pay 558 million euros ($750.4 million) for 2012-13, 561 million euros ($754.43 million) for 2013-14 and 564 million euros ($758.47 million) for 2014-15.

RTI's bid was for 259 million euros ($348.3 million), 268 million euros ($360.41 million) and 277 million euros ($372.51 million) over the three seasons.

The total deal for both packages is 2.487 billion euros.

The league is still to determine how to handle the digital rights for the eight clubs not included in the RTI deal.
