The Seattle Sounders remained on track for a hat trick of U.S. Open Cup titles by beating the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-1 in their quarterfinal on Wednesday.
Nate Jaqua and Fredy Montero scored in the first half, and Lamar Neagle added an insurance goal in the second for the Sounders, who will host Dallas in the semifinals on Aug. 30.
Seattle is seeking to be just the second team, after the New York Greek Americans from 1967 to 1969, to win three straight titles in the 98-year history of the tournament.
Adam Cristman scored for the MLS-leading Galaxy, eliminated in the quarterfinals by Seattle for the second straight season.
Jaqua, who scored five times for Seattle in last year's U.S. Open Cup, scored his first of this year's tournament late in the fourth minute, taking a through ball from Pat Noonan on the left side of the penalty area and drilling it past goalkeeper Josh Saunders.
Montero made it 2-0 in the 25th minute with a shot from the top center of the box.
Cristman, who had a near-miss earlier in the first half, pulled a goal back for Los Angeles in the 40th minute, running onto a cross from Chris Birchall and ripping a shot past goalkeeper Terry Boss.
Neagle sealed it for the Sounders with his goal in the 74th minute.
In the other semifinal, the Chicago Fire will meet the Richmond Kickers, who play in the third tier of the U.S. professional game but have beaten Major League Soccer's Columbus and Sporting Kansas City to reach the last four.
