Scottish footballer banned for doping violation
A Scottish Premier League player has served a monthlong ban after testing positive for a stimulant found in dietary supplements that has been behind a spate of recent doping cases.
Hamilton midfielder Simon Mensing tested positive for methylhexaneamine in December.
The UK Anti-Doping agency said in a statement Mensing had served a four-week suspension ending Monday.
The 28-year-old Mensing says he ''made every effort'' to check the dietary supplement was clean.
He says Britain's UKAD accepted he wasn't trying to improve his performance.
The World Anti-Doping Agency recently loosened the classification of methylhexaneamine to the ''specified stimulant'' list, which covers drugs that are more susceptible to inadvertent use and can carry reduced penalties.
South African rugby players recently tested positive for the same stimulant.
