Scottish Cup Roundup, Jan. 10
Kenny Miller's goal from penalty spot earned Rangers a Scottish Cup
replay in a 3-3 draw at Hamilton on Sunday after the hosts had
scored three goals in seven minutes against the defending
champions.
Rangers appeared to be cruising at 2-0 up in the 30th minute
at Douglas Park after Steven Whittaker and Miller had scored.
But Simon Mensing made it 2-1 from the penalty spot in the
39th minute after the referee ruled that Mark McLaughlin had been
fouled by Kirk Broadfoot. Marco Paixao equalized in the 45th, and
Mickael Antoine-Curier made it 3-2 in first-half injury time after
Rangers defender David Weir slipped on the frosty surface and the
striker ran clear.
Miller scored from the spot in the 62nd after a harsh
handball call on Stuart Elliott, who was making his debut for
Hamilton. The defender went down in the area and accidentally
touched the ball while on the ground.
Hamilton lost Nigel Hastings for a second yellow card in the
80th.
Most of Saturday's schedule was wiped out by the deep freeze
gripping the country but Premier League clubs Aberdeen, Dundee
United, St. Mirren and Hibernian got through to the last 16.
Aberdeen ousted Hearts 2-0, Hibernian outplayed non-league
Irvine Meadow 3-0, Dundee United won 2-0 at Partick Thistle and St.
Mirren knocked out Alloa 3-1.
