World Cup-winning coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has been found not guilty of cursing at a referee in Brazil, escaping a suspension that could have reached 12 matches.

Scolari had been accused of offending a referee in Palmeiras' 2-0 win over Atletico Paranaense in a Brazilian league match on Aug. 14, when he was ejected in the second half after harsh complaints.

Brazil's sports tribunal late Wednesday said there was not enough evidence to suspend the coach, who acknowledged that he "will try to control" himself from now on.

The colorful Scolari is known for having a short temper and has had heated discussions with referees and the media throughout his career.
