Bayern Munich says influential midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is likely to miss the crucial Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen because of an ankle injury.

The Germany international had to leave training following a challenge from teammate Arjen Robben, and an examination from team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt revealed sprained ligaments in his right ankle.

Schweinsteiger will miss training on Friday and Saturday and the club says he is ''very doubtful'' to line up on Sunday.

With five games left to play, fourth-place Bayern hosts second-place Leverkusen.
