Schwarzer stay pleases Hangeland
The goalkeeper recently quashed speculation that he could be on the move in January by penning a new contract. The Australia international is now committed to the Cottagers until 2012. His decision to sign on came on the back of ongoing rumours linking him with a switch to Arsenal. The Gunners had tracked him for much of the summer, with a £2million bid knocked back at one stage. It was expected that Arsene Wenger would return in the New Year, determined to land the experienced 38-year-old. However, the Arsenal boss announced last week that he has no intention of adding in January, and Schwarzer subsequently agreed fresh terms with Fulham. Cottagers centre-half Hangeland has welcomed that news, with the Norwegian aware that transfer gossip can be an unwelcome distraction for the player concerned. Asked if Arsenal's interest in Schwarzer had caused dressing room unrest, Hangeland said: "No, I think it was more difficult for Mark, perhaps, not knowing where he was going to play. "That's always a bit hard for any player but it's part of football. "And since it was decided he's staying here, he has been putting in a top-class performance every week. Mark is by far the best keeper I've worked with."
