Scharner picked up the injury during Saturday's Premier League defeat to Liverpool and faces a race against time to be fit for the match against Bolton in two and a half weeks' time. Baggies assistant boss Michael Appleton told the club's official website: "Paul's got a grade one tear to his medial ligament on his left knee. "It's not a serious one but it is highly unlikely he is going to be fit to play at the weekend. "With the international break after that and the Bolton game not being for a further two weeks, he will be assessed by the sports science people and physios, who will be able to give us an indication of whether he will be ready for Bolton or not." Meanwhile, West Brom are running the rule over DC United goalkeeper Bill Hamid, who is training with the midlands club for a week. Hamid came to the Baggies' attention during their pre-season United States tour. Appleton added: "This week has been a good opportunity for him and us to see if he is worth pursuing."
