Schalke midfielder Jermaine Jones has been banned for four Bundesliga matches after being sent off in the 3-1 loss to Stuttgart last week.
The American international received a straight red card in the 73rd minute of Saturday's match for a tackle on Ibrahima Traore. The German Football Federation said Wednesday that the punishment had to be harsh because Jones is a repeat offender.
Jones now holds the club record with five dismissals.
He will miss the last match before the Christmas break, against Freiburg, and the first three games after the recess, against Hannover, Augsburg and Greuther Fuerth.
