Scan shows Arsenal's Gibbs out for 'short term'

Arsenal says defender Kieran Gibbs did not break a bone in his left foot during Tuesday's League Cup match and should only be out for the ''short term.''

The 20-year-old Gibbs hobbled off in the 102nd minute of the match at Tottenham, which Arsenal won 4-1 after extra time.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger feared Gibbs had fractured a metatarsal in the same foot he injured in November 2009. He missed the rest of the season.

But Arsenal said Wednesday a scan showed there was no fracture in the foot.

The Premier League club says ''Kieran has suffered severe bruising to his left foot and will hopefully only be missing from first-team action for the short term.''
