Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake will face Mexican club Monterrey in the CONCACAF Champions League finals.
Monterrey tied Cruz Azul 1-1 on Wednesday in Mexico City to win the two-leg semifinal 3-2 on aggregate. Humberto Suazo's 81st-minute penalty kick provided the winning margin for Monterrey.
The opening leg of the final will be played at Monterrey's Estadio Tecnologico on April 20, with the return leg at RSL's Rio Tinto Stadium a week later.
RSL reached the finals despite losing 2-1 to Costa Rican club Deportivo Saprissa on Tuesday night. RSL won the first leg of the semifinal 2-0 and advanced 3-2 on aggregate.
Luis Cordero scored for Saprissa a minute into the second half, but Jamison Olave tied it in the 61st to snuff out hope for the Costa Ricans. Alonso Solis, who came on as a late substitute, converted a penalty for Saprissa in the 87th.
Salt Lake defended solidly in the first half and gave the Costa Ricans few chances.
Cordero shocked Salt Lake right after halftime, beating Nick Rimando into the top corner of the net to give the home crowd a boost. But with Saprissa pressing, Olave scored on a volley following a corner kick.
