Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has confirmed that he will stand for re-election in 2016.

Rosell became president of the Catalans in 2010 replacing Joan Laporta and, despite having three years of his current term still to run, the former vice-president has already announced his intention to throw his hat back in the ring.

He told the club's Senate: "I intend to stand for re-election.

"I ask you to continue to give me confidence to finish the challenges that we have started."

Rosell originally joined the board alongside Laporta in 2003 but resigned in 2005 after a dispute with the then president.

During his tenure as president Barca have won the Champions League in 2011 and have advanced to the semi-finals this season where they will take on Bayern Munich.

Domestically they also claimed the Primera Liga title in 2011 and are on course to re-claim their crown after finishing second to Real Madrid last term.

Rosell's time in charge has also seen the club win the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA World Club Cup while completing the signings of Cesc Fabregas, Alexis Sanchez and Javier Mascherano.
