The friendly in Dublin will be the first time the 24-year-old has played since England's disappointing World Cup finals in South Africa. Rooney, along with the likes of Park Ji-sung, Michael Carrick and Nemanja Vidic, has been given additional time off by Sir Alex Ferguson after being part of the summer tournament. It proved a competition to forget for Rooney as he failed to score in any of England's four matches, although Ferguson has been happy with his training and application since returning to the Red Devils. "Rooney, Park, Carrick and Vidic are back in training and doing well," Ferguson told the club's official website, while also confirming Antonio Valencia would also feature. "Valencia is also training well and needs a game. All of them will be involved."
