Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo is confident he will end his first season at Real Madrid as a Primera Division title winner.

Madrid are currently two points behind defending champions Barcelona at the top of the standings, but with the Catalan giants still to go the Bernabeu, the capital club know that their destiny is in their own hands.

Ronaldo, who joined Madrid last summer in a world-record £80million move from Manchester United, is in optimistic mood about his side's chances of topping their arch rivals, saying: "I'm sure that we'll win the league.

"We only have to worry about ourselves and continue doing the same as we are now. We believe in our chances."

Madrid have won their last six league matches, scoring 22 goals and conceding just four in the process.

Barca, meanwhile, have struggled of late and suffered their first league defeat of the season at Atletico Madrid a fortnight ago.

Pep Guardiola's side were back to near their best in Saturday's 2-1 home win over Malaga, and it could be that the title will be decided when the two superpowers meet at the Bernabeu in mid-April.

Ronaldo insists his side are not looking at that match yet, though, adding in AS: "The game against Barcelona at home could be key, but we're still not thinking about this date and we are only taking it game by game and trying to improve every day."

Ronaldo also revealed the race for the Pichichi crown as the leading scorer in La Liga is down his list of priorities.

The Portugal international, despite missing nine games through injury and suspension, has netted 13 league goals in La Liga so far this season, leaving him just four adrift of leading duo Lionel Messi and David Villa.

"The Pichichi? I'm not concerned about that. What I want is to win collective titles with Real Madrid," said Ronaldo.
