Rodgers unsure over Donnelly
Donnelly, 19, held talks with Rodgers over a move to south Wales earlier this week, after Cliftonville, who have previously expressed their desire for a deal to be done before Christmas, initially accepted an offer of around £100,000. Liverpool and Everton are also reportedly interested in a move for Northern Ireland youngster, but Rodgers says Swansea have done all they can to beat them to a deal. He said: "We have done everything we can up until this moment. We had the player watched over a number of months, I went to see him myself, and I felt he was worth taking into our group. "We arranged for him to come over for a couple of days, he's a good kid and his agent and assistant coach enjoyed their time here and that's as much as we can do. "We agreed the fee on the basis he came here and enjoyed it and we could put a deal together, what happens after that is out of our control. "They decided the fee was no longer agreed and that's something out of my hands." Although Rodgers appeared downbeat about Swansea's prospects of signing Donnelly, he did not rule out the prospect of chairman Huw Jenkins putting in an improved offer for the teenager. "At this moment the chairman has spoken with their chairman and I will find out how that evolves," Rodgers said. "It's up to the club, I came back with a valuation and Cliftonville have played the game quite well, but we shall see. "He's a good kid and the two clubs who are reportedly interested are fantastic clubs, but it has to be about an opportunity for the player and they (Cliftonville) will decide who will be best suited. "I find it sad and disappointing that we had an agreement and now we don't, morally you would think that would stand but we will find out over the next few days." Wednesday's 1-0 defeat at Everton means Swansea will enter 2012 without a Premier League away win to their name. But their excellent home form means they will be confident of picking up points when QPR and Tottenham visit the Liberty Stadium over the festive period. Rodgers, who will allow his players to spend Christmas Day with their families, is keen to round off arguably the greatest year in the club's history on a high note, starting with Tuesday's meeting with QPR. "It's been a real iconic year, with some wonderful memories we have created and we are in the Premier League and doing terrifically well," he said. "We've had a good start and we want to take that momentum into 2012, and there's no better way to have a real positive results. "We are an effective team at what we do. We need to improve our away record but the most important thing is that we are collecting points. "We must continue to do that, there's no point just doing it at the start you have to do it at the middle and end of the season as well. "We are nearly at the halfway point, we are happy but we are always motivated to get more points." Swansea have lost just once at home all season, that defeat coming with a 1-0 reverse against champions Manchester United, but their poor away record, which is the worst in the top flight, means there is a need to maintain high standards on home soil as they lie four points clear of the drop zone. Rodgers insists his players are not feeling any extra pressure. "I've never put the players under serious pressure here," he said. "There is a natural pressure of course, they really want to win but we all know the consequence if you don't pick up results. "I don't need to reinforce that. "All I want them to do is to continue playing good football and in the main it's been very good. "I know if we continue to enhance and develop our style it will bring results." Rodgers also confirmed that Swansea have been contacted regarding the availability of some of their players for the Great Britain side that will play in next summer's Olympics. Midfielder Joe Allen has been linked with a place in Stuart Pearce's squad, but Rodgers would not reveal the identity of those who received invitations. He said: "I have been contacted with regards to players. Once I speak with the players I will let you know."
