Robinson wins new Reds deal
Robinson has earned his place in the first-team squad over the last six months. The 18-year-old reserve-team defender was drafted in by Kenny Dalglish towards the end of last season, having made just one appearance under Rafael Benitez at the end of the 2009/10 campaign. He played twice last April, against Arsenal and Manchester City, and has remained part of Dalglish's squad ever since. Robinson, who joined Liverpool at under-10 level, became the club's youngest player aged just 16 years and 250 days with his substitute appearance against Hull in May 2010. He has now made five first-team appearances, with two coming in the earlier Carling Cup rounds against Exeter and Brighton this season, and remains back-up to first-choice Jose Enrique. Robinson said he did not have a second thought about signing a new deal when one was offered. "I was going for my lunch and I saw Damien Comolli (director of football) on my way through," he said. "He pulled me to one side and said the club wanted to offer me a new contract. "I'm delighted. There was no doubt in my mind, I was just so excited the club were offering me a contract. "I've just got to keep working hard in training. I can't just sit back on this contract. I've got to keep improving and showing people what I'm about." Robinson knows he is behind Enrique in the pecking order but is learning much from the Spaniard, who has impressed since arriving in the summer from Newcastle. "He's been fantastic in every game he's played," the youngster told liverpoolfc.tv. "I need to learn from him. He's the perfect role model because he's got everything as a left-back."
