Roberto Martinez insists Ross Barkley is not leaving Everton this month
Everton boss Roberto Martinez has ruled out the possibility of Ross Barkley leaving in the January transfer window, insisting it is vital that he keeps his 'best performers.'
One win in the last nine games has turned up the pressure on Martinez but he has urged his side and supporters to stick together as they prepare to tackle West Ham United in the FA Cup.
Martinez has told Manchester City and any other potential suitors that they can forget about luring Barkley away from Goodison Park this month.
He said: "This January window for us it is vital we concentrate on recapturing our best form so you can imagine all of our best performers even if they get a lot of attention they are not going to be anywhere. We've had a tough run of results but it's up to us all as a club to show what we're capable of again in the second half of the season. We showed consistently last season what we're capable of doing.
"The message to the fans is very clear, we're all together and at any time in adversity it is about finding a way to become a winning side. It's time to help each other, help the players and we will get reward for it because the talent is there. We've got three games now at home and that's really important. We need that positive result that's going to trigger our season."
Martinez said they are looking for a goalkeeper and that they are looking for a long-term signing; Joel Robles is currently deputizing for Tim Howard, who is sidelined for six weeks with a calf injury
He said: "You want the young players to be ready and we will give them opportunities but now we have to be relying on experience and that is why we will look into that situation There are a couple of options I feel could fit really well but I wouldn't just bring in anyone who stops the development of a youngster.
"I would rather make it a long-term signing. I don't think short-term would be a solution for us now. We'll always take a look to see if we can strengthen. We're here to build something for the future, not just for now. Together, we'll find a way to become a winning team again."
John Stones returns to the squad for Tuesday's FA Cup third round match against West Ham after missing the last two matches with an ankle injury.
Kevin Mirallas is also in contention but James McCarthy remains sidelined with a troublesome hamstring problem.
Martinez added: "James McCarthy is recovering well but I don't think he will be involved on Tuesday. His hamstring is not yet ready to cope with 90 minutes of football. John Stones and Kevin Mirallas have provided really positive news for us and they will both be in the squad."
