River Plate beats Racing to share Argentine lead
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) River Plate goalkeeper Leandro Chichizola saved a penalty in second half injury time to help the Buenos Aires club to a 3-2 win over Racing and move level with Gimnasia at the top of Argentina's first division.
Gimnasia drew 0-0 with Lanus earlier Sunday, but remain ahead of River on goal difference with only two rounds remaining before a new champion is crowned.
In other results on Sunday, Boca Juniors defeated All Boys 3-1 and Arsenal overcame Newell's Old Boys 3-2.
Fernando Cavenaghi opened the scoring for River Plate from the penalty spot in the 25th minute, with Diego Villar getting on the end of a free kick to equalize for Racing in the 38th.
Colombian Carlos Carbonero fired in from the edge of the penalty area two minutes before halftime and then set up Cavenaghi for his second and River's third in the 54th.
Gabriel Hauche pulled one back for Racing in the 73rd, before Chichizola dived left to save the penalty taken by Racing `keeper Sebastian Saja.
On Saturday, Estudiantes improved to third - two points behind Gimnasia - with a 2-0 win against Colon, while Godoy Cruz dropped to fourth - also two points off the leaders - after its 1-1 draw with Velez Sarsfield.
In other games Saturday, Rosario drew 0-0 with Olimpo and San Lorenzo defeated Rafaela 2-0.
On Friday, Quilmes won 1-0 against Argentinos Juniors, with Tigre playing Belgrano on Monday in the final game of the round.
