Rio Ave rises into 3rd place in Portugal

LISBON, Portugal (AP) Rio Ave beat Nacional 1-0 to rise into third place in the Portuguese league on Sunday.

Dutch forward Marvin Zeegelaar scored what proved to be the hosts' winner in the 59th minute.

Rio Ave pulled level with second-place FC Porto on 18 points, behind leader Sporting Lisbon with 23.

Porto has a game to play after its match at Uniao de Madeira on Saturday was postponed due to bad weather.

Fifth-place Benfica, three points behind Rio Ave, also has a match to play at Uniao after their match last month was also postponed because of fog.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Moreirense scored a stoppage-time goal to draw 1-1 at Academica as both remained at the bottom of the standings.

Maritimo also earned a 1-0 win at Boavista.
