Former Socceroos captain Craig Moore was arrested in Dubai after allegedly driving drunk and assaulting police, Australian media reported on Friday.

The Australian Broadcasting Corp., citing unnamed Dubai police officials, said Moore was arrested on Wednesday and jailed after an altercation with police. He was released from jail on Friday and was expected to appear in court this weekend, the ABC said.

Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed an Australian man was arrested in the United Arab Emirates but would not say whether it was Moore.

Moore's wife Heather told Brisbane's Courier Mail newspaper that she had little information on what had happened.

''I don't know anything else other than what's been reported - Craig's not getting phone calls,'' she said. ''I can't go over there. I've got two kids here and my job. I'll just sit tight and see what happens.''

Moore represented Australia at the 2006 and 2010 World Cups, after which he retired from international duty. He made his name in 12 seasons with Rangers, winning numerous championships with the Scottish club, and played for Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Borussia Moenchengladbach, and most recently, Greek club Kavala.
