A Swiss newspaper is reporting that the country's sports minister has commissioned a probe into alleged corruption among international sports federations.

Zurich weekly SonntagsZeitung says Ueli Maurer ordered the investigation following allegations in a British newspaper that senior FIFA officials offered to sell their 2018 and 2022 World Cup votes.

FIFA is one of many international sports federations based in Switzerland because of the country's favorable tax conditions for nonprofit organizations.

SonntagsZeitung reported Sunday that the aim of the investigation is to determine whether Switzerland needs to close loopholes that prevent sports governing bodies from being prosecuted if they engage in corruption.
