Report: Iran to host some of Syria's qualifiers

Iran's official news agency says Tehran will host at least three games involving the Syrian national football team in its bid to qualify for the 2015 Asian Cup.

IRNA said Tuesday that the Asian Football Confederation gave the go-ahead in a letter to Iran's football federation.

The matches will take place when Syria competes against Jordan, Syria, Oman and Singapore in Group A of Asian Cup qualifying next year.

Iran is the key backer of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The country's leadership believes the West and Israel are behind Syria's 19-month uprising to weaken Assad, who supports anti-Israeli militant groups such as Lebanese outfit Hezbollah and Palestinian party Hamas.
