Former England, Aston Villa and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey is reported to have agreed to a one-year contract worth $1 million with Newcastle Jets of Australia's A-League.

Local media said Thursday the 34-year-old Heskey, released by Aston Villa ahead of this Premier League season, will have to pass a medical before the contract is finalized.

Heskey played in two World Cup tournaments, including 2010 in South Africa, and played 62 internationals from 1999 to 2010, scoring seven goals.

Heskey would join another high-profile European player, former Juventus forward Alessandor Del Piero, in the A-League. The 37-year-old Del Piero signed a two-year contract worth a reported $4 million with Sydney FC on Sept. 5 and could play with his new club in a preseason match this weekend.
