A report says France's sports minister spent more per night on her recent trip to South Africa than members of the French national team, whose lavish, five-star accommodations she criticized.

Le Canard Enchaine newspaper says a ?667 ($817)-per-night suite was reserved and prepaid for Rama Yade before she said the players should be thriftier in times of crisis.

The team is staying at a ?589-a-night hotel at the World Cup.

Wednesday's report says Yade canceled her reservation, but was reimbursed. She ended up staying at the French consulate for two nights and spent one at a ?120 hotel, the report said. It also says airfare for Yade and her staff cost ?37,000.
