The Trotters came out on top in Tuesday night's Premier League clash at Ewood Park, moving above Rovers at the foot of the table in the process. Mark Davies gave the visitors the perfect start with his fifth-minute opener before Nigel Reo-Coker doubled Bolton's lead approaching the break. Aiyegbeni Yakubu pulled one back for Rovers in the middle of a much-improved second-half display but it was not enough, as under-fire Blackburn boss Kean left the pitch to the sound of more booing. Coyle said: "We're in a position that's self-inflicted. With the magnitude of the game and the position of both teams, it was one we wanted and I thought we we should have put the game to bed. I'm delighted to come out on the right side of the result. "There's pivotal moments and pivotal games this year. We had to draw a line in the sand and deliver today. When we get back to the Reebok, that's the atmosphere we'll need for the game against Newcastle. "You see the fan base we've got that came here and supported the team, they're going into Christmas with a smile on their face. It's great to do that and it puts us in with a few teams with two home games to come. "When it gets difficult, you have to take it on the chin and see your way through that." Coyle added: "I think anybody who watched that will have seen a classic Premier League encounter. It was end-to-end. "The (home) fans can say what they want but you can see the spirit they (the Blackburn players) have for Steve. "As a manager, I feel for him because it could easily have been the shoe on the other foot. He's a great lad. I've no doubts he's a terrific manager but one of us was going to be smiling more than the other tonight - barring the draw - and I'm delighted to come out on the right side of the result." Goalscorer Reo-Coker believes Bolton's resilience was key in sealing the win. "That's a big result for us," he said. "We knew it would be a difficult game, a six pointer, we gave it our all and we got the result we deserved. "You've got to stay calm and collected. You're not always going to dominate a game away from home. "We showed a resilient performance today. It's about the team. It's a team effort and we had to come here and perform as a team and that was a team performance."
