Reid: Baggies can pull through

The Baggies are on a downward spiral after losing six of their last seven league games ahead of Tuesday night's clash with Wigan at the Hawthorns. Reid accepts Albion are in a dogfight but points to the knowledge of such battles in the current squad as a crucial factor in their favour - including himself. Reid, back in the squad tonight after recovering from knee surgery, said: "We'd be lying if we said we weren't in a relegation battle at the moment. "But we have lads who have been in this position before and have been relegated with the club. "They are more mature now and bigger characters. Everyone is together in this squad. "I've been in a position before at Blackburn when we had 13 points from 17 games and looked doomed to go down. "But we ended that season in the top half of the table and, with a couple of good results, it all changes." Albion have won at Arsenal and drawn away to Manchester United this season but Reid knows results against their fellow strugglers are crucial. He said: "Any result you get against a top-six side is a bonus. It's important you win the games against the teams around you. "It's crucial you get results in your home games against your competitors. It's going to be one of our biggest games of the season. "We also owe them one because, when we got beat at their place, it was one of our poorer performances of the season." Albion head coach Roberto Di Matteo feels newcomer Carlos Vela will be perfectly suited to West Brom's style of play. Vela has signed on loan from Arsenal for the remainder of the season and is poised to make his debut tonight. Di Matteo said: "Carlos has got great technical ability, he's got fantastic pace and he is a great attacking option for us. "We are very pleased and delighted he has chosen to come and play for us. "It suits him very well the way we play football. That's the main reason he came here. "He can fit in very nicely in the way we play and be a big threat for us. "I think Arsenal were happy for him to come here and he was happy. I think they were pleased that he chose us."
