Redknapp: Keane is staying

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says he has no intention of selling Robbie Keane after dismissing claims he could move to Aston Villa this month.

The Irish striker has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane following a string of solid displays this season. With a number of clubs set to be interested, the club have a job on keeping him beyond the January transfer window.

Redknapp, though, is hopeful of keeping hold of his skipper for the foreseeable future. He says any club wanting to make an approach will have to place silly bids if they are to prise him away.

"Please God, he'll still be here in February," said Redknapp of his in-demand striker.

"He is the captain, he's here, he's done a great job for us and is very important to us.

"There's real competition between him, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch but unless someone comes up with £50million or something for him I can't see any way he won't be here.

"He's part of the plans and I haven't spoken to anyone about him leaving or wanting to leave."

Of the suggested link to Villa, Redknapp added: "I never made any enquiries at Aston Villa, if I did I would have spoken to Martin O'Neill who is a very good friend."
