Pulis fears great expectations

The Potters are aiming for their first top-10 finish in this, their fourth season in the top flight under the stewardship of Pulis. City have also qualified for last 32 of the Europa League and narrowly lost out to Manchester City in the FA Cup final last season. With Britannia supporters itching for more success, Pulis has sent out a warning, claiming it will take at least 10 years before they can consider themselves an established Premier League club. Pulis said: "It's been a great year. To get to the FA Cup final and then qualify from our group in the Europa League and be in the Premier League's top 10 means everyone should be very proud. "Now the problem is managing expectation. "There comes a point where you take the club to a level that exceeds what it should be achieving. "What we've done so far this season has been remarkable but we've only been here for four years, not 40. "People have to understand we're not going to finish above certain clubs. I'm not being negative, I'm talking about reality. "You hear talk of Stoke being 'established'. But what are Wigan and Blackburn if we're 'established'? "There's been bigger clubs than us that have caught a cold and fallen by the wayside. "Every season our main objective is to stay up. Then we'll try and build a club that'll be in the Premier League for 20 years. "If success comes, brilliant - but we need to do that for 10 years at least." But Pulis is pleased that Stoke are now being taken as a serious top flight club. He added: "The biggest thing for me is that if you go around Stoke-on-Trent, you see kids playing football in Stoke shirts. "When I first came here I saw Manchester United or Liverpool mostly, not Stoke. That's a testament to what we've done so far."
