PSV forward Lens gets 3-match ban for fracas
PSV Eindhoven forward Jeremain Lens has been given a three-match ban for getting into a post-game shoving match with Joris Mathijsen after Feyenoord beat his club 2-1 over the weekend.
The Dutch Football Association banned Lens on Wednesday for bringing the game into disrepute ''by grabbing his opponent's shirt and not letting go.''
Lens apologized for the confrontation Monday, saying ''I should not have grabbed him, shouldn't have waited for him.''
After Lens accosted Mathijsen on Sunday several of their teammates began scuffling in the tunnel of Feyenoord's De Cuyp Stadium in a confrontation captured by television cameras.
Lens and Mathijsen are teammates on the country's national team. Mathijsen is one of the Netherlands most-experienced defenders with 84 international appearances, while Lens is a relative newcomer with nine.
