PSG midfielder Clement Chantome signs new contract
Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Clement Chantome has signed a new contract with the French club until 2015.
PSG announced the deal on its website on Thursday, without giving further details. The 23-year-old Chantome was set to be out of contract in June.
Chantome progressed through the club's youth ranks and has formed an excellent partnership with veteran midfielder Claude Makelele this season.
''It's very important because Clement was formed at the club. He has improved and he has gone up a level this season,'' PSG president Robin Leproux said. ''We expect to see him get even better as we know his potential. He can become one of those symbolic players who represent their clubs.''
Last month, PSG's highly-rated defender Mamadou Sakho also signed a new contract until 2014. The 21-year-old Sakho also came through the youth team.
''It's a great pleasure to have signed a new contract,'' said Chantome, who first broke into the team five seasons ago. ''We've progressed enormously this season and we have to keep it going.''
PSG is in fourth place and trails Lille by seven points with seven matches remaining. PSG also plays Lille in the French Cup final next month.
