RIO DE JANEIRO --
The Ghana Football Association says the country's president has intervened to appease unhappy World Cup players and avoid a possible strike over unpaid bonuses.
In a statement, the GFA says President John Dramani Mahama ''personally spoke to the players'' to assure them they will be paid their money on Wednesday.

Reports say players had been promised between $75,000 and $100,000 each to play at the World Cup. The GFA didn't give a figure.
But the GFA conceded that there was ''agitation'' among the squad ahead of Thursday's decisive group game against Portugal, which will decide if Ghana progresses.
