Premier League considers addition of winter break

The Premier League says it is looking into the possibility of introducing a winter break into its packed schedule.

Premier League Chairman Dave Richards tells a British parliamentary inquiry into soccer that the body has been ''discussing ways forward how we can introduce a winter break.''

But chief executive Richard Scudamore says any plan is hampered by fixture congestion, which he blames on UEFA and FIFA.

England coach Fabio Capello blamed his team's second-round exit at the World Cup on his players being tired at the tournament in June. But Scudamore told legislators there is no evidence that a break in December or January would ''make a physical difference'' in June.
