Benfica took a step closer to securing its first Portuguese league
title in five years by winning 3-2 at Academica on Sunday.
Weldon scored twice and Ruben Amorim once for Benfica. Diogo
Gomes and William Tiero struck for Academica.
The win means Benfica has 70 points, six more than FC Braga,
which beat Leixoes 3-1 on Saturday.
Benfica can win the league next week if its beats Olhanense
and Braga fails to beat Naval.
Also Sunday, third-place FC Porto beat Guimaraes 3-0 after
goals from Freddy Guarin, Hulk and Radamel Falcao. Belenenses drew
0-0 with Rio Ave and Nacional beat Leiria 2-0.
Also Saturday, Naval beat Pacos Ferreira 3-1. On Friday,
Maritimo beat Olhanense 2-1.
On Monday, Sporting Lisbon hosts Setubal.
