Portugal coach Paulo Bento has signed a contract extension through to the 2014 World Cup.

The Portuguese Football Federation announced the agreement Thursday without providing details. A news conference is scheduled for Friday.

Bento wanted a deal before the European Championship begins next month, when his previous contract was due to expire.

Bento replaced Carlos Queiroz in September 2010 after Portugal took just one point from its first two qualifiers. The team reached the tournament through the playoffs.
