Portugal has appealed against the yellow card shown to Cristiano Ronaldo against Ivory Coast.
The Portuguese Football Federation said on its website Wednesday it had asked FIFA to revoke the booking because "there were no grounds for the disciplinary sanction."
Ronaldo was shown the card Tuesday after an altercation with Ivory Coast defender Guy-Roland Demel, who tackled him on the edge of the penalty area in the 21st minute.
The Portuguese captain complained to referee Jorge Larrionda, who responded by showing both players a yellow card.

The federation said Ronaldo was "pushed and insulted" by opposition players but walked away. It claimed there was a "disparity" in the referee's criteria.
