Platini ploughs into Fergie jibe

Ferguson said playing in the competition is the 'penalty' his side must pay for their Champions League exit at the hands of Basel. Now Platini has accused the Red Devils manager of showing the competition a lack of respect, insisting it is an "amazing tournament". "The world does not revolve around England," said Platini. "I like England, its football is fantastic and its supporters are wonderful. "But you shouldn't criticise the Europa League just because you've played in three Champions League finals. "The Europa League is a brilliant competition, it's amazing. I know Mr Ferguson would have preferred to be in the Champions League but so would many clubs who don't have that possibility."
