A fourth-minute goal from North End trialist striker Akpo Sodje gave the League One side victory on Wednesday night.
Argyle boss Fletcher told the club's official website: "It was a good workout.
"The start was a little bit lethargic. We had a tough session the day before but the lads stuck at it and we knew what we needed to do.
"After we got the first 20 out of the way, it was good.

"Towards the end of the game, fitness levels were still looking good so, all round, I was pleased."
