Darren Ferguson maintains he will not quit Peterborough despite their winless start to the Championship season continuing against Wolves.

Ferguson saw his rock-bottom side slump to a seventh successive league defeat as their worst ever start to a season showed no sign of letting up.

Upwardly mobile Wolves breezed to victory thanks to Sylvain Ebanks-Blake's first-half penalty and a late clincher from summer signing Bjorn Sigurdarson, who notched his first goal in English football.

A third win in six days lifts Wolves up into the top six as they step up their chase for an immediate return to the Premier League, but for Ferguson the outlook is very different.

"This was another poor, poor performance, particularly in the first half," Ferguson said.

"I thought we would have a lot more energy and tempo to our play then we did.

"I was embarrassed by what I saw.

"We gave away two more dreadful goals and that has been the story of our season.

"Everyone knows the situation we are in and it is up to us to do something about it.

"I've had enough time to look at things and now need to make some big decisions. I know what I need to do in the next week to try and turn things around.

"The easiest thing for me would be to walk away, but I've never walked away from anything. I've not got that in me."

Veteran midfielder Grant McCann sparked Posh's downfall when losing possession seconds before tripping Ebanks-Blake to concede a 31st-minute penalty.

The Wolves hitman slammed the spot-kick past Bobby Olejnik to register his 50th league goal for the club.

Another one should have followed moments later when he failed to guide a Bakary Sako free-kick past Olejnik.

In the end Wolves had to wait until eight minutes from time for substitute Sigurdarson to latch onto a Kevin Doyle flick and stylishly finish past Olejnik from a tight angle.

Wolves boss Stale Solbakken said: "I'm very pleased with how the last few days have gone.

"We did an excellent job again at Peterborough after having one day less of rest than our opponents.

"We had the chances to finish the game before we did and it was good to see Bjorn come on and get that second goal.

"Every day the squad is getting better. The players that were here are mixing with the new ones who have come in and everyone is learning together.

"Of course we still have a lot of things to work on but for now we can have a happy bus trip home."
