The former Nottingham Forest man completed his move to St James' Park earlier this week after agreeing terms on a four-year deal. Now Perch has told Sky Sports News that he cannot wait to get started with the Magpies. "I can't wait, you hear stories about all the great players that have played here, and the great supporters that this club gets and I am just looking forward to playing my first game and settling into this great city," he said. "They [Newcastle] have welcomed me with open arms." Perch is already looking forward to the opening game of the season against Manchester United. "It is a great start, it is going to be tough going to Old Trafford but everyone is looking forward to it," he said. "It is going to be a massive step [playing in the Premier League], the step up from the Championship is massive but hopefully I can do it." Perch played in both midfield and defence, and he confirmed where he wants to play for Newcastle, saying: "Right-back is my favourite position."
