Pep Guardiola says Yaya Toure needs to run more to play
Yaya Toure will play for Manchester City. Or at least he will if he starts running when he doesn't have the ball.
Pep Guardiola said in a press conference that Toure will get back into the team "when he is going to increase a little bit his intensity without the ball."
"Yaya, until August 31, is here," said Guardiola. "I know he's trying. He loves football a lot.
"I spoke with him about his situation. He loves to play football, he's a player with huge quality."
There were a lot of questions about whether Toure would still be at Manchester City this season. Guardiola is notorious for demanding a lot from his players and Toure has cut his running down significantly in recent years. He's picked his spots on when to exert himself, something that he definitely won't be able to get away with under Guardiola.
Guardiola made a point of saying that Toure will only be at Manchester City if he wants to and left the door open until August 31, so it's possible that the midfielder still makes a move away from the Etihad. Maybe he doesn't want to do all the work that Guardiola demands and is pretty happy playing the way he has the last two seasons. After all, he's been a good player that way.
