Paris St Germain became joint leaders of Ligue 1 after a 3-0 victory over Montpellier on Saturday.
Javier Pastore's two second-half goals and a first-half strike from Kevin Gameiro put the capital outfit level with Lyon on points and goal difference.
Montpellier had several good chances but they could not beat PSG goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu who was in excellent form.
It was the home side who had the first chance to open the scoring in the third minute when John Utaka beat Zoumana Camara and fired in a low shot, only for Sirigu to clear at full stretch.
The ball rebounded and Olivier Giroud struck a follow-up shot from close range, but again Sirigu saved the shot to keep the scores locked at 0-0.
Brazilian Nene had a good chance to put PSG into the lead in the 18th minute when he combined with Pastore in midfield before his attempted lob shot over Geoffrey Jourdren flew inches over the bar.
However, Gameiro broke the deadlock in the 39th minute just as Montpellier looked in the ascendancy.
Blaise Matuidi won the ball and quickly released Nene down the left, who raced down the wing before crossing to Gameiro who beat two defenders to fire past Jourdren from close range.
Pastore then doubled the lead two minutes before the break when he superbly volleyed Siaka Tiene's long ball to comprehensively beat Jourdren.
After the break, Sirigu made a superb double save when Giroud beat Diego Lugano in the air and headed towards goal.
It was Montpellier's best chance of the game, but Pastore effectively ended the contest in the 79th minute when his lob evaded the keeper and went in off the post.
Montpellier almost got a consolation goal in the 84th minute when Giroud tried to cut in a shot from close range, but yet again the excellent Sirigu made a save to keep a well-deserved clean sheet.
