Parker hoping to keep form up

Parker impressed as a substitute against Denmark last month and was included in the first eleven for the 2-0 win over Wales in yesterday's Euro 2012 qualifier in Cardiff. The West Ham midfielder had won four caps under four different managers before yesterday when he looked at home in a holding role in front of the back four. It gave Jack Wilshere and Frank Lampard the licence to go forward. Parker said: "I got 45 minutes against Denmark, and I thought I did well, and it has gone well personally again against Wales. "I just need to keep the form up and hopefully get a bit more of a chance. "There is a lot of competition but I do feel I have been in some really good form this season. "I thought the midfield combination worked pretty well. It is easy for me when you are playing with two very good players in Lamps and Jack. "It gives them licence to go forward a little bit and it makes life easier for me." Parker feels the key to England's success was silencing the crowd with two early goals from Lampard and Darren Bent. He said: "It was a very difficult place to go. First and foremost we got three points. "The atmosphere was very tense and we quietened the crowd down. We knew we had to do that and we killed the game." Goalkeeper Joe Hart was full of praise for the performance of Wilshere who looked impressive on his first competitive start. He said: "You would have never guessed it was his first competitive international and I don't think you ever will with Jack. "That is just the way he is, that's the way he is built. "He is a great asset to have at 19-year-old. "There is so much more to come and he did really well coming into that sort of game." Hart did not have a shot to save but still feels there is room for improvement from England who face Ghana in a friendly international at Wembley on Tuesday. He said: "I think we could have done better in the game. We all appreciate that. "If we want to move forward, we are going to have to really kill games off. "It was good to get a clean sheet but I'd have done well not to keep one because I don't think I had a shot on target to deal with."
