Pardew targets two strikers

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew plans to bring in a pair of new centre-forwards in the summer and has not ruled out a move for Loic Remy.

Newcastle have unexpectedly become embroiled in a battle to avoid relegation this season and are just three points clear of the drop zone with a couple of games remaining.

Pardew has put the Magpies' precarious position down to a number of factors, including a lengthy injury list and their failure to replace Demba Ba in January when he left for Chelsea.

Remy had been lined up as their main target but instead went to Queens Park Rangers, and Pardew insists he will not make the same mistake in the summer.

He intends to recruit a couple of players to provide more firepower and support for Papiss Cisse, who has shouldered the goalscoring burden for the second half of the season.

And Remy remains in Pardew's thoughts after suffering relegation with QPR, who face Newcastle at Loftus Road on Sunday.

Asked if Remy was still a transfer target, Pardew said in the Daily Star: "In the summer, we've got to bring two strikers into this club.

"I'm not going to dismiss any striker I think has the great quality he has."

Pardew has admitted that missing out on Remy was a major blow to Newcastle's season, saying: "It's put extra pressure on us that he didn't arrive, so for that reason, I was disappointed."
