HULL, England (AP) Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was sent to the stands to watch his team beat Hull 4-1 Saturday in the Premier League after appearing to head-butt Hull midfielder David Meyler.

The incident happened after 72 minutes, with Newcastle winning 3-1, when Meyler barged into Pardew as he looked to retrieve the ball for a throw-in.

Pardew, no stranger to touchline altercations, squared up to Meyler before appearing to move his head in the direction of the Irishman. Referee Kevin Friend sent Pardew to the stands, with the Football Association sure to take a close look at the altercation.

''I'll be sitting down from now on,'' Pardew told the BBC after the match. ''I apologize to everyone concerned.''
