Jesus Padilla scored in the 12th minute to give Chivas USA a 1-0 victory over the Austin Aztex on Tuesday night in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup tournament Tuesday night.
Chivas USA advanced to the quarterfinals against the Houston Dynamo on July 6.
Padilla scored after receiving Osael Romero's long pass and converting an 18-yard shot inside the left post.
Chivas USA goalkeeper Zach Thornton made two big saves against the United Soccer League's Division One team. Thornton blocked Lawrence Olum's 25-yard line drive in the 15th minute and leaped to tip Eddie Johnson's 13-yard header with his right hand in the 67th minute.

Chivas USA broke a seven-game losing streak in all competitions and the Aztex's four-game winning streak.
