Osasuna dominates Zaragoza
Osasuna produced a dominant display to blow away Real Zaragoza 3-0 in their Primera Division clash at the Reyno de Navarra.
Zaragoza failed to deal defend set-pieces all afternoon and Raul Garcia scored the opener after 18 minutes when the visitors failed the clear a long throw into the box.
Nino doubled the advantage from another throw-in and Javad Nekounam scored the pick of the goals with a fantastic looping header after half an hour.
The home side should have added to their advantage numerous times in the second-half.
Nino's audacious effort from just over halfway was well saved by Roberto and Alvaro Cejudo failed to make contact when presented with an open goal.
Jose Luis Mendilibar had asked for his side to play in a traditional intense Osasuna style before the match and they more than obliged as the Zaragoza defence failed to deal with both the physicality of the hosts' forward play and the excellent deliveries into the box from wide areas.
Garcia continued his purple patch since re-joining the club on loan from Atletico Madrid with the opener as Nino knocked a loose ball across the area for the midfielder to volley in his fourth goal of the season.
The diminutive Nino's movement off Ibrahima Balde was causing Zaragoza all sorts of problems and he was denied by a decent stop from Roberto on 25 minutes before getting on the scoresheet two minutes later.
Marc Bertran's long-throw into the area was flicked on by Garcia and Nino stretched the volley the ball into the ground and over Roberto.
The home side were now in full flow and added another goal three minutes later. Nekounam struck a free-kick into the midriff of Helder Postiga, who was positioned in the Zaragoza wall, before Ibrahima delivered the loose ball from the right and Nekounam controlled his header brilliantly to loop over the diving Roberto.
Zaragoza complained both to the referee and Osasuna players that the game should have been stopped with Postiga on the floor, but they showed less fight in the second period as Osasuna continued to dominate.
Ibrahima should have scored when presented with the ball at the back post as Zaragoza failed to defend a corner, but sliced wide before Nino's effort from fully 45 yards was brilliantly tipped over by Roberto.
Cejudo missed a glorious chance as another corner was played back across the Zaragoza goal but the midfielder failed to make any contact.
Not that it mattered for Mendilibar's men, who comfortably saw the game out to record their first win in six games and move above Zaragoza to 10th in the table.
